How to get a video under 20 MB

The quickest way is to pick the bitrate from the video length: target size in MB × 8 ÷ seconds = total Mbit/s. A 60 second clip fits 20 MB at about 2.6 Mbit/s, and at that rate 720p usually looks better than 1080p. Our Discord video compressor does this math for you in the browser, without uploading the file anywhere.

Too long even then? Cut it with the video trimmer, or turn a short moment into a GIF.

FAQ

What is the Discord file size limit?

20 MB per file for free accounts since August 2026, 50 MB with Nitro Basic and 500 MB with Nitro.

Why does Discord still say my file is too large?

Your file is over 20 MB, or your app is out of date. On phones the size is now checked before compression, so a big phone video is rejected even if Discord could have shrunk it.

How do I send a video bigger than 20 MB without Nitro?

Compress it to under 20 MB first, cut it shorter, or share a link from a cloud drive instead of the file.

Is the old 25 MB limit back?

No. Free users had 25 MB before 2024, then 10 MB, and now 20 MB.
