Timecode Calculator

Add or subtract timecodes and convert frames or seconds to timecode, at every common frame rate including drop frame.

Made for editors: pick the project frame rate, type two timecodes and see the sum or difference, the total frame count and the real-time duration in seconds. Drop-frame timecode for 29.97 and 59.94 is handled correctly, including the skipped frame numbers at every minute except each tenth.

Below you can convert a frame count or a duration in seconds straight to timecode.

How it works

  1. Choose the frame rate From 23.976 to 60 fps, drop or non-drop.
  2. Enter two timecodes Format hh:mm:ss:ff. Shorter input like 30:12 works too.
  3. Read or convert Result, frames and seconds update as you type.

FAQ

What is drop-frame timecode?

At 29.97 fps, timecode numbers 00 and 01 are skipped at the start of every minute except every tenth minute, so the timecode stays in sync with the clock. The video frames themselves are not dropped.

Why does 23.976 show different seconds than 24?

23.976 runs 0.1 percent slower than real time. One hour of 23.976 timecode lasts 1 hour and 3.6 seconds on the clock.

Which separator means drop frame?

A semicolon before the frames (01:00:00;00) by convention.
